Bike-Sharing

Articles on Dockless Bike-Sharing Companies from China

Since the end of last year numerous bike sharing start-ups have emerged in China all advertising that they do not require docking stations but that their bikes can be left anywhere. However, this has caused multiple problems in China as well as in Europe  where several of these companies have also launched their bikes.

Specific problems are illegal parking, clogged sidewalks, vandalism, theft, inaccuracy of GPS, low quality of bikes and thus less comfort of riding, too few maintenance workers, deposits are being paid back late, overcapacity of shared bikes, threat to the image of cycling as well as operators are more interested in gathering data than satisfying customers.

On this page, news articles about this emerging problem are collected.

Platform for European Bicycle Sharing & Systems – PEBSS

In order to help cities review and evaluate the services of bike sharing companies, ECF developed two policy documents in 2017 in collaboration with UITP, NABSA and BikePlus. These documents are the Policy Framework for Smart Public-Use Bike Share and the Common Position Paper on Unlicensed Dockless Bike Share.

Dockless Bike Share in China

Dockless bike share creates chaos through illegal parking, vandalism, theft, too few maintenance workers as well as inaccuracy of GPS information and companies are aggressively competing for territory and investment.
